James Henry Owen and Mary Henderson Wallace (Owen)
The old picture above hung in
the home of Willie and Mary Lawrence for many years.
The Owen book is the largest of the
books in this series. The first ancestor is
Richard Owen of Virginia and his descendants who were in Henry
County. Danny Owen of Gleason, Tennessee helped with much of
the Owen family along with his father and mother, Dewey and Mary
The first record of Josiah Owen in
Henry County Tennessee is a deed for land 2 miles from Palestine
Church, dated Sep 25 1832. If our information on the death of Josiah
and his sons is correct, he outlived all three of them.
It is not know exactly when Josiah and his sons came to Henry County
but it was before 1832. Records indicate that he was a resident of
Greenville County South Carolina in 1790, and resided in Lincoln
County Tennessee in 1820. His sons may have came at the same time, we
have no way of knowing when they came.
James Owen, father of Josiah was the son of Richard Owen and Sarah
Elizabeth Rowland of Virginia.
Below is a record of an additional acre which was issued to Josiah on
3/24/1842. This is from Book A of the Henry County Land Records.
By virtue of warrant #5455 enters 1
acre. Begins on the northeast corner of David Hillard's 25 acre entry
in the name of B. H. Diggs, runs thence north 20 poles, west 8 poles,
south 20 poles, thence 8 poles to the beginning.
