The Old Home

This old house is in its last days. It will soon be gone if not already. This is where Granddaddy and Grandmother lived most of their lives. This was their farm and they worked here for more than 50 years. They moved about 3  miles north to Como, Tennessee about 1962. So it has been almost another 50 years gone by since they lived here. This house was originally an old log house down the hill toward Gleason. Granddaddy moved it to the corner of the McKenzie- Gleason road. It was only two rooms so Granddaddy and possibly his brothers built onto the house and added a front porch and back porch.

My brother and I lived here much of the time while we were growing up. I have many memories of my life here on the farm.

This yard, so overgrown, is far from the way my grandfather kept it many years ago. He always kept it mowed with a push mower. He kept the place in tiptop shape and people would tell how good his yard looked. It is abandoned now and no one to care for it. How very sad to see the old place go down so much. The last time I lived here was in 1952.
