Liberty
IV 1993 at leftThe old Liberty IV school has a long
history. So many of the people who lived in our area attended this school.
My grandfather (Willie Lawrence) was a substitute teacher there. My father
went to school there and my brother, J. C. and I also attended school there. Our
mother was a teacher there about 1933-34.

This school started as a log building about a half mile to
the west. It was destroyed and rebuilt in its present position.
Liberty School is more than this old building. It is the
laughter of children who lived in this community and have raised their families
here and in some instances have sent their own children to school here. It is
the memories of many people who once attended this old school and were friends
with the other children in the community. It is a long ago time of happiness and
contentment for many of the people who lived in this community. It is, in short,
part of the heart of this community in days gone by. What a privilege to have
attended this old school and been a part of it's history in those long ago days.
Many people who now live in this community do not know
the history of the school and indeed do not know that it has existed. The
old building will soon be gone and with it the end of an era in the history of
this community. How sad to know that someday people will not know that it ever
existed and that it was a part of the community's heart and soul. How can it be
that old Liberty IV will fade away? How can it be that the many stories of these
people will cease to exist. Who will remember?
We are trying to obtain all the
information we can about the old school and the people who attended and who the
teachers were. If you have any information or pictures please let us know as we
sincerely want to record and preserve as much of the history of the school as we
possibly can. Please e-mail or write.
